Make your own doll's house: A practical guide showing how to make the building of your choice in miniature Sale Price: $24.95 |
Building a dollhouse can be exciting for the build itself, while giving endless joy as a finished product to both children and adults alike. For many, building a dollhouse from scratch is a hugely challenging but ultimately highly rewarding pursuit.
Yet there can be problems when it comes to building your own dollhouse. The beginning of the process usually begins with most people buying some kind of prepared kit, and it is from this they create their dollhouse. While some of these kits allow for some margin of creativity, allowing you to choose some of the aspects of the design to allow it to differ from other models, by and large it is unlikely you will find exactly the dollhouse you want in a prepackaged kit. With dollhouses being so subjective to taste, this in itself can be extremely problematic - good may be enough for some, but would not you prefer perfect?
In these circumstances, the choice can be difficult. You can either stick with the good but not perfect prepackaged model, or you can take a deep breath and decide to build one yourself. However, though the latter satisfies the creativity problem, it does present an entirely new set of challenges. Building a dollhouse from scratch is extremely daunting, particularly if you have never attempted it before. It can also be expensive, as even buying in a plan to follow then has to be added to the cost of the raw materials.
The solution is finding a free dollhouse plan that you can follow. This allows you the option of building to your exact preferred specifications, but really helps to keep costs at a minimum. By finding a free plan, you also have the option of buying the exact materials you want from which to build it. This is extremely beneficial, and allows you to take time to save and plan, finding the exact materials you desire rather than those that are forced upon you in a prepackaged kit.
While, in a modern society that is seemingly obsessed with capitalism, it may seem unlikely that designers publish their dollhouse plans for free, it does actually happy. As is the case for so many things, the answer is the internet. Online, there are thousands of places which feature not only full designs for a wide range of houses but also step by step instruction guides as to how to assemble them.
This is taken even further on video hosting sites such as YouTube, where designers not only link to their free dollhouse design but then produce a video showing exactly how the dollhouse is created from the same design. While this is not available with all free plans, if you do find a design you like and it has an associated video, this is extremely useful.
Many of the free plans are available on websites that make their money by selling more complex plans, and it is at your discretion without or not to use these. However, it is by no means necessary as the free plans available are varied and range hugely; some are suitable for beginners while others require some previous experience. If you do want to step away from the crowd and go for something a little more bespoke, with a couple of clicks a free dollhouse plan can be yours.
