Will Cabbage Patch Kids clothes fit Build a Bear?

I can't find sewing patterns for my daughter's Build a Bear dolls, but noticed some patterns for Cabbage Patch Kids dolls on ebay, does anyone have both types of dolls, and can they wear each others clothes? If they can then I should be able to use CPK patterns to make BAB clothes...

Try doing a search for CPK sewing patterns. There might be some free ones. Pick one and make it. If you can knit or crochet, I think there are free patterns for CPK. This might also help. Good Luck.

8 Ways to Get Your Child Dressed in the Morning 

 From approx 12 months of age, children have this innate ability to drive their parents mad with the obnoxious ‘challenging’ behaviour, from getting dressed every morning to food refusal. This daily event turns into an ongoing war fuelled by frustration from the parent and tears from the child. I am sure I am not the only parent to experience the daily task of struggling with an unco-operative toddler.  

However, there is a ray of hope for those of you with very strong willed children. Here are a few tips to make your mornings run a little smoother...

1. Superheroes, cartoons and other character favourites…if your child is wearing something they love, dressing can be a whole lot easier on you and fun for your child. Characters like Ben 10, Wrestling, Dora the Explorer, Disney Pixar Cars, Barbie, Elmo, Bratz, Spiderman are Batman (whatever your child's favourite) are just a few of the many well known popular brands that could encourage your child to dress themselves in the morning. You could even negotiate here, for example “You can wear your Dora Shirt, if you put on these pants”.

 2. Allow children to select their own wardrobe. Usually your child does not want to wear something because it is uncomfortable or not to their liking. Having them choose something they like is so much easier and less stressful. (Perhaps let them choose from 2 to 3 items – this limits time and impractical clothing).

3. Attach pictures onto each drawer, of what is in each drawer. This will help older children, but will also teach younger children which clothes go on which arts of the body.  

 4. On special occasions YOU decide what your child wears. You just need to explain to them that they can choose their ‘everyday’ clothes but on special days or certain events you get to decide.

 5. Another great idea, which leads to much more efficiency in the morning (especially for the ‘time poor’ parent, is getting your child to decide what they will wear the night before. Once the child has made their decision, the clothes can then be laid out on a chair ready for the next day. This could be implemented into their bedtime routine.

6. Another favourite and especially rewarding for the child is to play a game. Have a competition to see who can get dressed the fastest.

 7. It is okay to set certain guidelines when asking children to dress themselves. For example: Tell your child it is winter, so winter clothes only. Explain to them in detail what this means – long sleeves, long pants….here you have won half the battle at least! You could even separate the clothes into summer drawers and winter drawers. Making it even easier for the child to choose (this means they have the choice of 1 drawer only – this can be very effective)

 8. Complement your child’s great clothing choice EVERYDAY, and be specific. For example, “Those pants make you look taller, what a great choice”. Be positive whenever you can. The power of positive re-enforcement is not to be under-estimated. Watch as your child smiles at the complement, this continuous positive talk about dressing and making good choices will make your child’s experience only more positive.

It is important to children to want to look like their peers. As long as your child’s wardrobe is at least ‘weather appropriate’ and not totally outrageous, it is also important to embrace your child’s decisions. This will encourage sensible choices.

 Every child is an individual and unique. Some are more independent than others and dressing is not such an issue. But if you have a highly independent child, implementing these 8 small easy steps could change your mornings forever.

Remember playing with dolls when you were a child? If you were like me, you had a Barbie doll or two in your toy box. Barbie was introduced in 1959 by a lady named Ruth Handler (co-founder of Mattel). Ruth named the doll after her own daughter, Barbara. In 1961, Ruth created Barbie's boyfriend, the Ken doll, named after her son. Now, almost half a century later, Barbie is still in the hearts and toy boxes of children (and even adults) everywhere.

Our children today have more toys than ever. Electronic toys, video game systems, iPods, and computers are just the beginning. So much has changed in the world of toys since we were children but one thing that hasn't changed is the simple love of the Barbie doll. Barbie today has new friends, new clothes, a new house, and even more new pets than she did 40 years ago. However, little girls today still enjoy dressing and primping Barbie to act out her fantasy life during playtime.

My grandmother was a seamstress. She would sew beautiful clothes and accessories for my Barbie doll collection. I had a suitcase full of her handmade creations and the kids in the neighborhood would come over so we could dress the dolls. I loved selecting the fabrics and picking out dress styles. Although I didn't realize it at the time, the clothes she made for my dolls were better quality than anything I could buy in a store.

As a teenager I became interested in sewing. Because my grandmother had passed, I was left to teach myself how to sew. I spent hours upon hours in front of my Kenmore sewing machine turning out beautiful creations. It came so naturally to me. Through the years I created clothing for myself and my family, window dressings, and decorative home decor items. I later spent about 5 years doing ready-to-wear clothing alterations for the general public. Then, about 10 years ago, a dear friend gave me the greatest birthday gift... a Barbie doll. Let me tell you, you are never too old to receive a Barbie doll!

While going through some old boxes during our last move, I found a box with many of the Barbie dresses my grandmother had made. The finding inspired me! I would make new clothes with today's fabrics for my Barbie doll. What could be better than handmade doll clothes? They are hard to find in this day and age because people don't have or make time to sew like they used to. As I began creating beautiful dresses, everyone who saw them wanted to buy them so I added them to my online craft store. I couldn't believe the response. I have received so many emails from people who told me beautiful stories of their mothers, aunts, and grandmothers who handmade their doll clothes when they were children. I then knew that bringing back handmade doll clothes for today's families would be the beginning of new traditions and would help create beautiful memories and gifts that could be passed down through generations. In a world where everything is so commercialized, going back to the basics with Barbie has reminding me of a wonderful time in my childhood. I have antique doll Porcelain Head, Movable jointed compound body? It was brought back from France during the Boar war (1899-1902). I have been trying to find a valuer in Perth CBD unsuccessfully. My grandma is teaching me to sew (i am 14, yeah i know its late) anyways she teaching me the way she learned by sewing doll clothes i have been using some of my grandmas old patterns but some of them are old/riped etc. and I want some of my own original ones too i am starting with easier stuff like pajamas, a blanket, a pillow, a bathrobe etc. anyways my doll is a madam alexander about the size of a tooth brush or hair comb maybe 5-6 inches i dont really know (srry i dont have a ruler) anyways when we went to joanns and patterns were like way expensice so can someone give me tips to draw my own patters or links to online printable patterns or stores that sell cheeper patterns, thanks!

Oh that is so nice that your grandmother is teaching you to sew. This will be an invaluable skill when you get older. It might turn into a business later on.
Here is my hint- allow at least 1/2 to 1/4 inch for a seam when you sew the clothes. Remember to use a fold when making skirts, blouses (tops) just sketch , measure, and cut.

Teddy bears have become a common display in children's playrooms, toy shelves and even teenage girls' rooms. One wouldn't be surprised if a girl 13 years old still had a teddy bear beside her when she sleeps. If Mr. Bean can have his own teddy, why can't she?

While teddy bears have even come to replace some little boys' (and girls') old and reliable blankys, it's interesting to know how teddy bears all started.

Truth is, no one has exactly traced who manufactured the first teddy bear that came to existence. Its history dates back though during the day of the original life size and real "Teddy."

It was on November 14, 1902 when President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was helping to settle a border dispute between Louisiana and Mississippi. While on a hunting party during his spare time in Mississippi, the host of the said "party" offered a bear for President Theodore Roosevelt to shoot at. As the young wounded bear was captured and presented to him, President Theodore only felt pity and care for the bear, so he told his host that he refuses to shoot the helpless creature.

Two days after, Clifford Berryman, a cartoonist of Washington Post found inspiration from the bear incident and immortalized it by drawing a cartoon of President Theodore Roosevelt and the young bear. Berryman pictured President Roosevelt with a gesture of refusal to take the trophy shot at the helpless young bear. Underneath the cartoon, Berryman wrote the lines "Drawing the Line in Mississippi."

Berryman's cartoon immediately received attention and was widely reprinted. It was not long after when husband and wife Morris and Rose Michtom of Brooklyn New York recognized the immediate popularity of Berryman's cartoon. Rose made bears that looked exactly like Berryman's drawing and displayed it in their candy and novelty store. The couple named it "Teddy's bear" in remembrance of President Roosevelt's hunting incident.

With two brown button's sewn on Teddy's bear, it created two innocent eyes that made the bear look even more sweet, innocent and cuddly. Just like Berryman's cartoon, Rose's creation was not on all fours but was on upright position. Teddy's bear instantly became a hit and, thus, also marked the history in children's toys.

As the popularity of Teddy's bear came instantly, so was the demand for the stuffed toy. It didn't take long when the Michtoms had moved his novelty store to a loft, and registered his business under a new name which came to be Ideal Novelty and Toy Corporation.

Around the same time, the Teddy Bear was also born in Germany. The Steiff Company of Giengen manufactured their first jointed stuffed bears during the same year. Created by Margaret Steif, the stuffed bears we seen by an American buyer at the Leipzig fair in 1903. Several thousands of bears were immediately ordered and shipped to the U.S.

The procedure is usually done in the doctor's office under local or light general anesthesia and takes about a day. The healing process is fairly quick and any pain can usually be alleviated with over the counter medications.

When you're looking at patterns, look at the line drawings, not the photos. it's easier to "see" the lines of the garment in the flats.

You might want to borrow some basic patternmaking books from the library -- the sections you particularly want to pay attention to are those dealing with "block theory" (the underlying basic patterns for a design), and some of the basic pattern modifications that are easy to make.

While you're at the library, also find a copy of Colette Wolff's Art of Manipulating Fabric. Buy yourself a couple of yards of muslin and start playing.

What are cute ideas to sew clothes that look awesome without it being too hard?

I'm 12 and am amazing at sewing (not to brag) but I've sewn mostly without patterns or I make my own. I've sewn pants, curtains,tote bags, sweatshirts, hats, shawls, doll clothes, aprons, organizers, etc. I was wondering how i could make it easier to actually get my ideas to paper, not like a pattern but like a pad of paper, or a model, also...what ideas do you have for me that i could make? I don't need a lot of details or anything just like an answer like "try a sundress" or such and also if you have any tips on how to sew, sewing tricks, or anything else, even if it is little tools that make sewing a lot easier, that would be great!

Have you played theme and variations with a basic pattern? For instance, with a simple long sleeved blouse pattern, you could make any of several dozen collars, at least half a dozen different cuffs, a dozen front opening variations (single breasted, double breasted, concealed placket, zippered, exposed zipper, neckline placket, etc.etc.) Then there are the 11 million types of pockets that could be made. I find it useful to make up muslins of my basic patterns -- out of plain light colored fabric, and stand in front of the mirror with one on and draw in new style lines, different types of pockets, pin on paper collars, etc.
