Beginning scrapbookers (or scrappers) face a challenge at first. It takes creativity and good organization skills to make a top-notch scrapbook. Scrappers need experience in layout, design, and using the materials. Coming up with the appropriate scrapbook theme can be a difficult task for novice scrappers. And constructing a great scrapbook requires the right tools.

4 Scrapbooking Tools - Reasons You Need Them To Make A Scrapbook

You can start scrapbooking with a very basic set of tools, listed here, and build from there. Scrapbooking tools serve a variety of purposes, from simple preparation of your photos and keepsakes to tools to help you create interesting decorations and embellishments. Many tools will come from your desk drawer or toolchest. But you'll want to check out your scrapbooking supply store for the items designed specifically for scrapbooking.

1. Scissors. Don't laugh. It may seem obvious, but scissors are a basic scrapbooking tool. They help bring order to your photos and mementos, and they allow creativity while you construct form and line. You use scissors for more than cropping your photos. One part of scrapbooking is cutting paper, foam, and fabric into shapes to complement and highlight your keepsakes. Scissors are basic to the scrapper. There are two types of scissors common to scrapbooking:

- Traditional paper-cutting. Normal scissors that you use every day are useful for cutting straight lines and cropping photos. It's important to use sharp scissors for this purpose so that your cuts will be clean and neat. You don't want to damage your materials before you even get them in the book.

- Crafting. These scissors are available at art supply stores and shops. They come in distinctive shapes for different cut types. Curves, zig-zags, and waves are three common shapes used for cutting scrapbook paper and embellishments. They add zest to your pages.

2. Hole Punches. You can find single-hold punches to create confetti-like decorations or to make holes for attaching ribbons, yarn, or thread and tying things to your pages. As with scissors, there are two types of punch available to scrappers, and you probably need both. Conventional punches make round holes. More unconventional punches create shaped holes. Five-point punches create snowflakes, flowers, and asterisks. You can find scrapbooking punches that create daisies, stars, hearts, footprints, leaves, spirals, tiger paw prints, butterflies, other insects, and even a Mickey Mouse shape. They range in size from 1/2 inch to almost 2 inches, so you can create a variety of interesting shapes to add to your scrapbook's appeal. You'll probably want to get several different hole punches for this purpose.

3. Tweezers. Tweezers help handle small items and glue without making a mess or smudging your photos and pages. Easy to find and inexpensive, tweezers are a must!

4. Toolkit Choices. Scrappers use a variety of tools to add texture and excitement to their pages. You don't need to get all of them right away, but you may want to consider some of these useful scrapbooking tools for your toolkit:

- paper trimmer, foam or rubber stamps, craft knife, eyelet setter, ruler, glue pen, cutting mat, tag maker, wire cutter, foam brushes, specialty glues, colored staples, glitter pens, bone folder, craft hammer, tracing stylus, acid-free pens, metallic sheets, embossing stylus, paper crimpers, rotary disc cutter, sewing needles and thread, ribbon irons and crimpers, and a scoring tool

5. Computer. Well, it's not exactly a tool you can run into the scrapbooking store to pick up on a moment's notice. But a computer can be a valuable tool for scrapbooking. You can use it to research your theme and add information about specific photos and keepsakes. You can also find many great ideas, images, templates, and accessories for your scrapbook by searching scrapbooking websites. And if you really want to apply your computer skills to scrapbooking, try making a virtual scrapbook and post your creative work on the Internet. You could build your own personal scrapbook website!

Scrapbooking is a fun hobby that produces beautiful family heirlooms to pass down through generations. Investing the time and energy to create your own scrapbook allows you to memorialize an event, a person, or an important part of life. What is a good craft to start as a hobbie?

I want a CRAFT. Something I can sit down and do. No SCRAPBOOKING OR COLLECTING

I have many hobbies, but the ones that are good to sit down and do are Knitting, Crocheting, Beading and Polymer Clay. None of them are particularly expensive to start with, though polymer clay usually requires you get a pasta machine to use with the clay that will never be used for food again.

Knitting and Crocheting are also very portable, so you can bring your project with you when you travel, or waiting for an appointment.

Beading is fun since you can make jewelry, and the projects can be as easy or complicated as you want to make them. You can decide to choose a project that only takes an hour, or one that takes 6 months.

Polymer clay has benefits as you can make so many different things from it - containers, jewelry, home decorations and x-mass tree ornaments. You have so many other materials you can incorporate into the process, and a huge range of colors and textures to work with.

Where can I find do it yourself miniature projects for my dollhouses?

I do make quite a bit and also purchase some but I would like some more ideas. I need to know how I can make fish and seafood, meats and hanging meats for a butcher shop, Victorian era clothing patterns (to fit dolls 5 to 61/2 inches) and easily made furniture. Dollhouse kits come in all types and prices. Most will have the houses separate though, and many of those are quite complex to make. Do look at "hobby stores" as well as "craft" stores (places that sell model railroad supplies, etc.)... they more often have those kinds of kits.

You don't say how large these things need to be, or how much you're supposed to "make" them.

Themed Button Bracelet Using A Stretch Cord

In making stretchy themed button bracelet all you need are your chosen themed buttons and Stretch Magic Bead/Jewelry Cord. There are wide assortments of themed buttons available at your local bead stores. You can be creative and include some handmade glass beads if you want to.

Just use buttons and make a spiral design; however this will require you a lot of buttons and it doesn't show off smaller buttons well. You can use an alternative like placing a spacer or beads to separate and show off your buttons.

Pick your desired buttons and beads and start to lay out your pattern. You can explore and play with other designs and styles.

You can now cut a piece of stretchy cord six inches longer that your wrist measurement, this is for adjustment or extension if necessary. On one end, you have to put a paper clip.

After that, you can now start with your stringing. If in case you aren't satisfied with the way the pieces mesh, just simply restring it. When you are now satisfied with your design and you have now a correct length of bracelet your are creating, finish it by simply line up the two loose ends side by side and then tie an overhand knot.

Button Bracelet Using Memory Wire

For this project you will need some vintage buttons to put at the center of your bracelet, and coordinated stones and beads for the rest. Prepare also a bracelet memory wire, some jewelry making tools such as round tipped needle nose pliers for looping each end and holding the beads and small materials in place, and a wire cutter. If you wish to finish the end of your bracelet, you can also use glue on an end cap.

Start laying out your desired design. Get your memory wire, cut a piece of it two inches longer than your wrist's measurement.

You also have to put a clip at one end.

String one half of your design starting at the center button.

Before continuing the rest of your stringing, check the fit first. This way you can easily adjust the length if it's not half of your wrist's measurement. After that, switch the clip to the other end and start stringing with the other half.

In making the end loops. Just grip the loose end of memory wire using needle nose pliers.

Wrap the wire around the pliers to shape the loop; you have to position the pliers for you have the size of loop you want. Tightly grasp the pliers; push the wire away from you and around the tip of the pliers until you have finished the complete loop. Make sure you have lots of wire when doing this project.

Lastly, clip off the other end and cut away any excess wire and repeat the looping process.

That is just the beginning you can learn other jewelry making techniques in adding more colors to metal or working with polymer clay jewelry. It is all up to you as to how far and how detailed you want to get. The only thing that limits a jeweler is their imagination, so imagine, dream and create.

Etsy.com seems like a great place to check on. Try local craft shows and festivals in your area. Make some of your items for gifts and others will ask about where that nice bracelet came from. I sent some pieces to the school for the Santa's Workshop and got some calls from my little tag attached. I sent my sister two sets of things I had made and her office group went bonkers! Be patient, it doesn't happen over night but it can grow!

Making polymer clay fish may seem hard at first, but with the following ideas, molds, utensils and techniques, making polymer clay fish is so easy even a child can do it.

Polymer clay can be dangerous. Keep polymer clay out of the kitchen, where it can leak toxins all over your serving ware. Dishes or utensils used for working with polymer clay cannot be used again in the kitchen. Polymer clay can be absorbed through the skin, so plenty of hand-washing is in order.

Polymer Clay Fish

Making polymer clay fish is not only a fun project. It can even be educational. Research your fish. Don't make a generic fish. Make a deep sea fish in the deep shades of purple, pink, yellow and blue that only polymer clay can exhibit.

Mimic nature.

Let's make a whale. Then, just for fun, let's add one fish, two fish, a red fish and a blue fish.

Polymer Clay Molds

After priming the clay or working it in your hands until soft, use a pasta maker to flatten the clay. Cut the fish out, using different colors of clay for the base of the fish. Then, pinch off bits of different color and add it to the fish to make the fins a different color. Use the tines of a fork or a toothpick to make lines in the fins. Add spots or a streak or two of color to the body of the fish. Press a piece of screen into the body of the fish to give the illusion of scales. When you're done, your red fish and blue fish can scour the ocean floor while the majestic whale sails the waves above them.

Make the whale out of black polymer clay and bits of white and blue. Always prime the different colors of polymer clay separately. Once the colors are mixed, there is no way to separate them again.

Mold the whale with your hands by making the body in the shape of a rectangle. Slowly work a piece of white clay into a thin piece of undercarriage for the whale, making sure the white is only about one tenth of the bulk of the black. (The white will represent the whale's belly.) With a fork, make crisscross lines on the bottom of the black clay and the top of the white clay and then press the white layer of clay to the underside of the whale and, with a downward motion, smooth the line where the black and white meet, pulling as you reach the back end. Taper the back end of the rectangle into a fat triangular point so that the block of clay now resembles the shape of a swan's body.

Once the body of the whale is completed, you may want to trace a line just above the line of white clay around the front third of the whale's head and around to the other side. Make the incision slight but visible, like a smile. Place a teeny round bead of blue polymer clay on each side of the head to represent the eyes, and make a slight indentation on the top of the head for the blowhole. To emphasize the blowhole you may want to make a bluish-white stack of water spouting upward. (Add the water spout and tail last.)

Continue to slowly work the clay so that it loses the rectangular look and feel and begins to taper into a point at the tail end of the body. Add a second piece of conditioned black clay to the mix as the tailfin. Form the tail by flattening the end until it is very thin and uniform. To give it a realistic feel, press the tines of an old fork into the edges of the tailfin.

Carefully attach the tail to the body. Smooth the attachment lines with your fingers until all breaks and lines have been wiped away and the whale looks as slick as though he just rose up and out of the Pacific Ocean. Curve the tail upward gently in a pose reminiscent of the motion a whale exhibits as he readies himself to slap his tail playfully against the nearest wave as he submerges.

Even if you're new to cake decorating or an engaged couple on a budget, all you need are some basic cake decorating skills or a little time to shop online. You'll soon have a cake that has everyone wanting to take a picture!

The quickest way to gather ideas for creating a cake topper or to find the perfect one to purchase is to window shop the Internet. Search with phrases such as "funny wedding cake topper," "wedding anniversary cake topper," etc. If you're not sure where to start, here are a few examples:

· Hand-blown and spun glass cake toppers. Gold highlighted and sparkly or smooth and sleek, many of these are incredibly beautiful. A cake topper depicting a bride and groom ice-skating on top of a snowflake wedding cake is one of our favorites!

· Silver, gold or Swarovski crystal monograms (and numbers for birthdays and anniversaries)

· Sporty cake toppers can depict a bride and groom aboard a sailboat, riding horseback, roaring away in his and her race cars, and… well you get the picture.

Here's a tip for using flowers as a cake topper. Take into consideration the size of the cake. Tiny flowers can be used on a large cake, but if used on their own, theyÂ’ll be lost. Conversely, large flowers like bird-of-paradise will dwarf a smaller cake. Also, as with any cake topper, consider the style and formality of the event. Daisies are more casual than roses, while stephanotis can swing either way.

Here are a few ideas for flower cake toppers:

· With a bouquet of flowers on top of the cake, arrange a few clusters of flowers here and there on the lower tiers as if a few blossoms have gracefully fallen from the bouquet.

· A gum paste plumeria or orchid lei encircling bride and groom figurines.

· Adorn your cake only with edible (non-poisonous) flowers, being sure that the flowers are also pesticide-free.

Big OOOPS with aluminum cookie cutters...badly tarnished.?

I bought some adorable vintage aluminum cookie cutters just for fun. While I do like to use my cutters, I thought I'd be smart and just toss them into the dishwasher one day when I had a little extra space just to clean them up a little.
