If you are looking into investing it must be noted that emerging markets are attracting a lot of attention from investors at present. This enthusiasm is warranted on many counts, but investors delving into the developing world need to be aware of the risks that come with investing in these markets.

I recently met with the managers of the Eastpoint Global Emerging Markets Fund, an Australian fund that invests in emerging markets. They made a strong case for why these markets may do better than developed markets over coming years.

One of the main reasons developing countries have the potential to recover faster than developed countries is that consumers have much less debt in emerging countries than in developed countries.Mortgage debt across developed countries is around 55% of GDP, while in emerging markets it is closer to 15% of GDP. Households in countries like China save a much higher proportion of their income. This high savings ratio has meant the developing world has largely side-stepped the implosion of the debt bubble that has so impacted the developed world. The Anglo-Saxon countries, where the debt and housing bubble have been most pronounced, have been the hardest hit.

Governments are also better placed in the developing world. Governments in emerging markets also have much less debt than in developed countries. Debt held by governments across the twenty largest developed economies equates to 80% of GDP, while across emerging countries public debt is around 35% of GDP.

Perhaps the most significant issue that these markets have in their favour is demography. Countries in the developing world generally have a much younger population than do developed countries. It is clear that the ageing populations in countries like Japan and Germany is having a negative impact on their economic performance. At the other end of the scale, countries such as China and India have much younger populations, which should help propel economic growth over coming decades.

An unlikely, but nevertheless important, factor that may influence future economic performance is tax. Developing countries typically have lower tax rates than developed countries. Not only are taxes higher in developed countries, but many are facing the prospect of raising taxes to help pay for bank bailouts as well as burgeoning healthcare and pension costs.

All of these factors mean that emerging economies have the potential to generate a higher level of GDP growth than we may see across developed economies. The deleveraging of household balance sheets may mean that economic growth will be as low as 2.5% a year over coming years across developed economies. This is a far cry from the 3.7% seen over the past five years.Emerging economies are forecast to grow at double this rate. This faster growth should mean higher levels of growth for companies and therefore better performing share markets in emerging markets.

Emerging markets currently account for just 24% of the total value of world share markets. This is set to rise as their performance relative to the major developed economies improves. While the long-term outlook for these markets is compelling, there are risks in investing in these.

Emerging countries face massive political, legal, social and financial hurdles on their journey towards prosperity. Investors in emerging markets bear these risks.

Share markets in emerging markets are also more volatile than in developed countries. The Chinese market is a shining example of this. Over 2006 and 2007, the Chinese share market rose an incredible 370%. Then, over 2008, virtually all of this gain was wiped out when the market fell 70%. In the first five months of this year the Shanghai exchange has again risen strongly, gaining 90%. But yet again these gains have been short lived.

Over August it has fallen 22%.The key message is that investing in emerging markets has merit, but it requires a careful approach, a hard hat, and a very long-term perspective.

Do you remember Care Bears? Those bears have been hibernating for so long. But in 2001, they made a comeback. They were retro toys and they have the 1980s series to thank for their popularity.

American Greetings brought them back so that today's generation of kids would enjoy the bears that we enjoyed when we were younger.

In 2007, Care Bears Cheer, Funshine, Share, and Grumpy were loved by the children. Then there is the new addition Oopsy Bear. He was introduced in the movie "Oopsy Does It" in August that year.

It was also in that same year when they celebrated their 25th anniversary and the collection began. For those who remember the cartoons, they feel nostalgia seeing these bears around again.

Those who collect them appreciate the limited edition anniversary keepsakes and silver jewelry which are made available at specialty retailers. Some of these items may be pricey but they are worth it.

Vintage Care Bears reach a younger market through Macy's. This all started when Macy had a Thanksgiving Day Parade float showing off products which they have exclusivity off.

Creators and Macy's figured out that this is a way to share the love for these bears between those who watched the cartoons growing up and the children today.

The popularity also inspire people to make their own handmade Care Bears. Some sell these to the collectors while others keep these for their own.

There are also auctions on eBay. These were very popular in 2007 as well as 2008. The licensed items include sleep wear, bedding, ornaments, toys, lights, clothing, costumes, books, and vintage teddy bears.

There are forty million bears that have been sold in 1983 to 1987, thus proving the popularity of vintage Care Bears to collectors.

These are sold for $20 but there are still other treasures that are often being looked out by the aficionados. Those that are auctioned are mostly second hand but in still good condition.

Nonetheless, collectors adore vintage Care Bears too much that they don't mind buying these secondhand bears and have them restored if needed.

Not all are sold under $100. There are other designs that cost more, for example the vintage Care Bears can amount to $800 and those that come in figures and play sets cost around $500.

The bigger the vintage Care Bear, the more expensive it is.

Children are unique in many ways. From crib to college, they are personalities that are as different as the wild flowers in any field. Just like these blooms, they are the golden beauty of the hand that created them, and the graceful delicate notes of a sonnet. They are just beginning and so the freshness of all they see, do, and say are gems that may need a lot of polishing, but underneath there is always the brilliance of precious jewels and stones that only can come from years of absorbing love, care, and nurturing.

It is a very sad fact that over three billion people go to bed hungry in the world every single night. A fact that is much sadder is that over four billion children go to bed hungry for love, attention, and encouragement. While their physical bodies are growing, their need for more than sustenance seems to expand and encompass their entire existence.

Many parents lament the fact that children just don't listen to them. These parents are positive that their knowledge from facing every day life, getting through hurdles in handling situations such as jobs, careers, and money are far beyond the reach of their offspring, but still children just don't hear what a parent is trying to teach them. The truth of the matter is that children do not really care how much you know or just how smart you are until they know and are sure just how much you care about them and love them. They can sense a parent who feels only the need to be a parent, but not someone who a child can turn to, talk to, or even dream with. I am not saying that parents should be "pals" with their children. They are and always will be the parents, the adults in the home, but children want a confidant, a listener, and someone who loves with no strings and no boundaries. They realize that if you don't love them with open arms no matter what they do, you have to love them with bear hugs for who they are and who they are yet to become. Parents may hate and detest an action, but the child should always be the recipient of unconditional love and always to be allowed to start over and move on.

It may only take the parents' time to eat meals together at least a few times a week, or for one parent to walk to the library with a child and just "listen." It can be taking out some books yourself, as the example of your wanting to nurture reading in your child will then be more of a concrete belief than just "words." If you want your child to follow, words may introduce a concept, but actions will culminate the lesson. While driving, if you don't wear a seatbelt, then the message is not "Put on your seat belt", it will be "Choose the law you wish to obey or the one you would like to ignore." Which lesson then is the one that you are trying to convey?

If you as a parent regard your job as a paycheck from week to week, then the directive that is being given to the child is that work is a chore, it is only an economic means of getting what you really want in life, and you must take a job as only "making time." If this is the message, then the sad fact is that a child sees it as a person's outlook on life determining their output into life. If you only do the minimum to get by, then what you put out will reflect this as your goal. However, if your passion for work or hobby is exuberant and worth pursuing, then the child will follow suit and find challenges and problems only bridges to be crossed and setbacks as small hills to be conquered. Makes quite a difference doesn't it?

However you decide to make your child feel loved and special, know that it is not the amount of money you spend on them, or the elaborate ways you try to communicate, because in the long-run, the bottom line is that children will always spell love as T-I-M-E. This time is spent with you, it is time spent in growing and learning, and together with you, they can grow in both body and character, and they can learn ways to reach the stars, but they will need that map and those directions that only come with TIME, because TIME will always translate into LOVE. Something to think about.
