"Mmmm"... there is nothing like walking into a decorated home at Christmas time and smelling the scent of a pine branch! Most people can walk into their own back yard or to a near by wooded area to gather natural pine branches and pine leaves from a pine tree.

What a wonderful way to decorate your home at Christmas time, just like they did back in the 1800's. It is said that in the 1600's Christmas trees were either holly or pine branches gathered together and placed on a table. Early in the morning children would find a piece of fruit or candy if they were good, or a switch if they were not.

Gather up many branches and bring them into your home. There are about 115 different species of Pine trees which can be found just about anywhere. Arrange the pine branches throughout the house in places like the fireplace mantel, across the top of the kitchen cabinets, across shelves, and across window sills. Have them hang over the edge a little. No matter how you display them they will look great and make the room smell wonderful!

Add small silver, gold, white, or colored Christmas ornaments. You could add bows made from ribbon or lace. Wrap tiny jewelry boxes in decorative Christmas wrapping paper and place them within the greenery. You could add pine cones, berries, and fresh flowers for the natural country look. Or, you could add fabric bows and buttons from homespun fabric for the primitive look. For the Victorian look you could add lace bows, pearls, and white lights. The ideas are endless, but no matter what you do, your home will look festive and smell great!
