Following the success of the Strawberry Shortcake product line they had designed, in 1981 American Greetings Card Company released a new series that starred the Care Bears. The Care Bears began as a series of greeting cards that had been drawn by childrenÂ’s illustrator Elena Kucharik. Two years later, after the greeting card series was in full swing, Kenner released the Care Bear Teddy Bear line.

Each Care Bear was a uniquely colored teddy bear with a white patch on their stomach that had a specialized insignia on its belly. For example, Good Luck Bear had a shamrock, Bed Time Bear had a crescent moon, and Grumpy Bear had a rain cloud. After the release, the Care Bears were seen in their own television series and had three full-length movies. In addition, they spawned a second set of stuffed animal toys, that were called Care Bear Cousins. Animals like lions, monkeys, elephants, penguins and raccoons were designed in the same style of the care bear teddy bears. The Bears live in a land called the Kingdom of Care-A-Lot where they fight negativity and sadness with a special super-hero like move they called the Care Bear Stare. The Care Bear Stare occurs when the Care Bears stand together and radiate light from their respective tummy symbols, combining to form a ray of love and cheer which is supposed to be strong enough to bring joy and care into even the darkest heart. Kid specific records, books, board games and video games soon followed.

Now, 25 years after their initial release, Care Bears are still being marketed and kids still love them all over the world. where can I get a pooh bear teddy (wearing blue dungarees and holding a little teddy)?

My son's nursery have lost his favourite pooh bear. Pooh was a gift to my son when he was born and has been going to nursery with him every day as he provides comfort for him when going to sleep.

I know it was bought from the Disney Store (UK), but they no longer stock it. I have tried e-bay (but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!) and have googled it too.

Does anyone have one that I could buy from them or know where I can buy one from?

question for moms with boys?

It's almost my little cousin's birthday and he's turning 10. I was wondering whether or not you thought this was a good present for a boy...
I was thinking of getting him a build a bear teddy bear and dressing it in a basketball outfit since he likes basketball. What do you think?

I'm not a mom, but I've babysat for almost nothing but little boys for the past ten years. In my experience kids grow out of stuffed animals around age eight, especially boys. If he likes basketball, how about getting him a brand new, really cool basketball. Or, a jersey of his favorite team/player. You can also ask his parents if there is anything he's been asking for that they haven't got him, or get together with a few family members and get him new basketball shoes. But, yeah, teddy bear is probably not the best choice.

What would be the average cost for a teddy bear hamster?

I am going to buy the teddy bear hamster, (of course) a wire cage with a plastic base, hopefully the wheel is in the cage, bedding, water bottle, ball, food, toys , and a sleeping small house. How much on average or what it costs for you?

Well when i got my black bear hamster it cost about $25 and i got it in 2002 or something. But black bears cost more because they rarely bite. I think teddy bears cost between 5-20 dolars though. Altogether it'll cost prob 80-90 dollars

Teddy bears have been around for a long time. In reality it has been well over 100 years since we came to know teddy bears. The beauty of it is that teddy bears have come in all shapes and sizes, various colors and personalities. They have become a staple of childhood toys and they hold a spot in all of our hearts.

Books have been written about various teddy bears and stories have been told. Some teddy bears have even made it onto the movie and TV screen.

Winnie the Pooh Bear is infamous for his many adventures and his friends. Winnie, along with Christopher Robin, Rabbit, Tigger, Owl, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, and Roo live a very interesting life in the hundred acre wood.

We certainly would not want to forget Paddington Bear. This adorable little teddy bear comes from darkest Peru but now lives with Brown family at 32 Windsor Gardens. Paddington is very intelligent and has set opinions about what is right and what is wrong, and he is happy to tell you about his views. He is known for saying, "Things happen to me. I'm that sort of bear." This is a feeling that most of us can relate to. Paddington is also fond of saying, "It just wouldn't work", which is adorable in a teddy bear but not so much in a human.

In recent times The Care Bears were discovered. They rapidly gained popularity. Each Care Bear teddy bear has a message a message and a lesson to teach us about how we should conduct our lives. They come in various colors and sizes and each Care Bear has a personal motif on their tummies and a personal motto they dedicate their lives to. These bears have starred in their own movies and TV series.

There is a comic strip in a London newspaper about a mischievous teddy bear named Rupert. The comic strips have even been compiled to form books, called Annuals.

Not only have many teddy bears been featured in animated series and movies but several have had poetry written about them. With the many TV stations designed for children teddy bears are almost always in the spotlight.

Yogi and Boo-Boo have been in our lives for a long, long time. And we would not want to forget about Smokey as we warned us about forest fires.

Many stay at home Moms work from home and earn income in their spare time. They often do not want a full time job, as they prefer to be around to support their children when they arrive home from school each day. Having to drive to a place of employment would pose problems. The Moms would not only need to be home in time for the kids, but they would need to take time off when the Children are ill, and during school vacations. That is why many choose to be stay at home Moms.

The problem then, is how to earn an income, or supplement Dad's income. For many, the internet provides the answer. Not only can Moms make money from a number of online opportunities, but they can also sell their own goods and services online. One stay at home Mom I know, produces advertising copy online for a company on the other side of the world. This is all done from the Kitchen table. I know another lady who imports goods to sell via online auctions. Her warehouse is the family garage.

Other stay at home Moms produce goods in their spare time from home to sell over the internet, at flea markets, and through retail stores, or special events. Here are 7 ways some Moms make money from home. There are thousands more ideas, but these may be worth considering.

1. Bean Bag Creations

Make cotton bean bags for children to sit on. Choose bright fabric that would appeal to children. Sell through retail outlets, online, or at market and craft fairs.

2. Quilted Wall Hangings

If you enjoy quilting, begin a business selling quilted wall hangings to clients. Make in a variety of shapes and sizes using both traditional and contemporary designs and quilting methods. Sell through craft and hobby retail outlets, on the internet, through interior decorating outlets, or mail order.

3. Memory Bracelets

If you don't already know basic jewelry making techniques, enroll in a course and make memory bracelets for your clients. Your clients choose a style of chain bracelet from your catalogue and you connect onto this, small charms or trinkets that mean something to the client. Make handcrafted cuddly bears from home. Fake fur fabric and bear patterns can be purchased from your local hobby and craft store. Accessorize your teddy bears with glasses, ribbons, bow ties and hats. Sell at markets and craft shows, through specialty magazines and through mail order and the internet. Remember to meet all toy safety requirements.

7. Home Retailing

Home based retailing is another way of earning extra cash. There are many different types of product to sell, from Tupperware to lingerie. Choose a product to market that appeals to you and be aware that some companies require you to purchase an extensive range of their products as part of your start-up kit. The benefits of home retailing are that it has no overhead costs and does not require a high-pressured sales technique.

Every now and again we get an international story that demonstrates the importance of cultural awareness in the modern age. Examples include the Israeli tourists kissing in a Hindu shrine, the movie poster that offended Buddhists and sparked protests in S.E. Asia or the now infamous Prophet Muhammad Cartoons.

It is again the Prophet of Islam who is the centre of attention in the latest example of intercultural incompetence. British teacher Gillian Gibbons, 54, is currently facing charges in Sudan on the grounds that she insulted Islam and incited hatred by allowing her class to name a teddy bear Muhammad. The story has again been pounced upon by the media as another example of Muslim extremism, irrationalility and their obvious discomfort with the "modern world".

Firstly, it should be first stated that this is not a "Muslim" reaction. It was the reaction of some "over-senstive" parents (as quoted by Mr Khalid al Mubarak of the Sudanese embassy in London). Most Muslims appreciate this was simply an error of judgement based upon ignorance of the respect afforded to the Prophet within Islam. Many have publicly come out in support of Ms. Gibbons:

Muslim Council of Britain, (MCB)

"This is a disgraceful decision and defies common sense. There was clearly no intention on the part of the teacher to deliberately insult the Islamic faith. The children in Ms Gibbons' class and their parents have all testified as to her innocence in this matter. We call upon the Sudanese President, Umar al-Bashir, to intervene in this case without delay to ensure that Ms Gibbons is freed from this quite shameful ordeal."

Ramadhan Foundation

"The Ramadhan Foundation urges the Sudanese Authorities to immediately release Gillian Gibbons as she has not set out deliberately to offend or demonise Islam and Muslims," said Mohammed Shafiq. "This matter is not worthy of arrest or detention and her continued detention will not help repair the misconceptions about Islam. Like migrants coming to this country have to learn English, our values and customs, it is imperative that British citizens learn the values, customs and beliefs of their adopted country."

The reaction of the parents may be somewhat extreme but it does demonstrate that when the Prophet Muhammad is involved one always has to be careful, especially when in a conservative country such as Sudan. The crux of the matter here is that the decision to name the teddy bear was based on ignorance. This could have been something avoided through a simple cultural awareness course.

In any basic cultural awareness course on Islam, reverance towards the Prophet is always discussed and elaborated upon. Most people from Western Europe or North America do not appreciate the level of respect afforded to the Prophet and how this manifests. In 'the West', religion and Prophets are seen as open to criticism and ridicule in name of freedom of speech. However in more religious countries this is not tolerated. Within Islam it is an absolute no-no, whether it is Muhammad, Jesus (Isa), Moses (Musa) or Abraham (Ibrahim). The reason is that Muhammad is seen as the best of creation and the bringer of God's final message to mankind. In a narration (hadith) of the Prophet he tells his followers:

"None of you believes until he loves me more than he loves his children, his parents, and all people." In another hadith he says: "None of you believes until he loves me more than he loves himself."

A man of this stature is therefore afforded the highest of respect. Jokes are therefore out and naming teddy bears is not really appropriate either.

The whole saga is though a prime example of why people really need cultural awareness training before they go to live and/or work in a foreign country. It opens their eyes to potential problems and challenges they may face as well as help them in the settling in process. Cultural awareness helps the foreign become less alien and most importantly less unexpected.

Below are some basic cultural awareness tips for expatriates planning to move to a foreign country:

* The easiest place to start is to get a good book that explains the local laws, customs, religion, society, etiquette and culture. There are now many websites that offer such information for free.

* Join a forum on the internet. Ask for advice and what cultural awareness tips they have.

* Try and learn some of the language - if you can not dedicate time to language lessons then why not learn some simple phrases?

* Draw upon friends or acquaintances that may be nationals of the country you are moving to. Seek their advice and insight.

* If kids are moving to then involve them as much as possible in building cultural awareness - give them small tasks that will slowly introduce them to their new homes.

* Once in the new country respect local customs and dress codes. As you are a guest in their country it is important not to behave in a manner that could offend people.

* Even if local customs and ways of doing things may be frustrating always remember that it does not make it wrong. People across the world simply do things differently.

* Pay attention to any religious observances especially in with less familiar religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. In some countries there are restrictions on what can be eaten or worn.

* If you are ever unsure whether your behaviour is appropriate, simply observe what the locals do and follow their lead.
