Following the success of the Strawberry Shortcake product line they had designed, in 1981 American Greetings Card Company released a new series that starred the Care Bears. The Care Bears began as a series of greeting cards that had been drawn by childrenÂ’s illustrator Elena Kucharik. Two years later, after the greeting card series was in full swing, Kenner released the Care Bear Teddy Bear line.

Each Care Bear was a uniquely colored teddy bear with a white patch on their stomach that had a specialized insignia on its belly. For example, Good Luck Bear had a shamrock, Bed Time Bear had a crescent moon, and Grumpy Bear had a rain cloud. After the release, the Care Bears were seen in their own television series and had three full-length movies. In addition, they spawned a second set of stuffed animal toys, that were called Care Bear Cousins. Animals like lions, monkeys, elephants, penguins and raccoons were designed in the same style of the care bear teddy bears. The Bears live in a land called the Kingdom of Care-A-Lot where they fight negativity and sadness with a special super-hero like move they called the Care Bear Stare. The Care Bear Stare occurs when the Care Bears stand together and radiate light from their respective tummy symbols, combining to form a ray of love and cheer which is supposed to be strong enough to bring joy and care into even the darkest heart. Kid specific records, books, board games and video games soon followed.

Now, 25 years after their initial release, Care Bears are still being marketed and kids still love them all over the world. Do you remember Care Bears? Those bears have been hibernating for so long. But in 2001, they made a comeback. They were retro toys and they have the 1980s series to thank for their popularity.

American Greetings brought them back so that today's generation of kids would enjoy the bears that we enjoyed when we were younger.

In 2007, Care Bears Cheer, Funshine, Share, and Grumpy were loved by the children. Then there is the new addition Oopsy Bear. He was introduced in the movie "Oopsy Does It" in August that year.

It was also in that same year when they celebrated their 25th anniversary and the collection began. For those who remember the cartoons, they feel nostalgia seeing these bears around again.

Those who collect them appreciate the limited edition anniversary keepsakes and silver jewelry which are made available at specialty retailers. Some of these items may be pricey but they are worth it.

Vintage Care Bears reach a younger market through Macy's. This all started when Macy had a Thanksgiving Day Parade float showing off products which they have exclusivity off.

Creators and Macy's figured out that this is a way to share the love for these bears between those who watched the cartoons growing up and the children today.

The popularity also inspire people to make their own handmade Care Bears. Some sell these to the collectors while others keep these for their own.

There are also auctions on eBay. These were very popular in 2007 as well as 2008. The licensed items include sleep wear, bedding, ornaments, toys, lights, clothing, costumes, books, and vintage teddy bears.

There are forty million bears that have been sold in 1983 to 1987, thus proving the popularity of vintage Care Bears to collectors.

These are sold for $20 but there are still other treasures that are often being looked out by the aficionados. Those that are auctioned are mostly second hand but in still good condition.

Nonetheless, collectors adore vintage Care Bears too much that they don't mind buying these secondhand bears and have them restored if needed.

Not all are sold under $100. There are other designs that cost more, for example the vintage Care Bears can amount to $800 and those that come in figures and play sets cost around $500.

The bigger the vintage Care Bear, the more expensive it is.

Greeting cards started out as simple slips of papyrus, that were exchanged by both the Egyptians and Chinese as messages of goodwill. As the concept of greeting cards evolved, Europeans began to send them to one another for holidays such as Valentine's Day – and this occurred as early as the 1400's. Of course, these cards were handmade and expensive so not everyone could afford to send greeting cards for their holiday well-wishes.

Greeting cards really hit the mainstream in the 1850's, when commercial printing as well as the invention of the postage stamp started to allow people all over the world to send greeting cards to their loved ones. can anyone help me identify my daughter's doll and what show it might be from?

my daughter was given a bag of toy by our neighbors. included is very interesting doll of a woman. it is marked american greetings corp 1982. the doll is of an older woman with purple boots, tights and hair. she has a purple dress with grapes and grape earrings. she has a bit of a hook nose and a more "villanous" face. i've done a google image search on several of the company's toy lines and haven't found this particular doll. if anyone can give me any leads i'd appreciate it.
