how to explain sex to a 5 yr old?
i have a 5 yr old daughter and lately she's been acting weird, she has been hiding behind the sofa playing with 2 dolls and she undresses them and puts them on top of each other. i also have a 2 yr old and my oldest tells he to get on top and bounce on her. yesterday i got a call from her teacher saying that a little boy in her class exposed himself to my daughter and another little girl. i expected her to tell me but she hasn't. shes been lying a lot lately. how do i approach this situation. thank you.
this is not unusual at all at their age - they are just exploring
for now, I would tell her that everything that is covered by her underwear is private and we don';t show it to anyone who is not our mom or dad or doctor, and that we only touch it when we are in out own room or bathroom
Playing with dolls in a sexual way is also common - I did that and actually had orgasms when I was in kindergarten but I did not know that it was an orgasm
Research shows that fetuses (!) touch genitals while in the womb
You may ask for more advice from her teachers and get books form the library
You do not have to explain toher any more than what she asks - like if she actually asks about sex or boys' organs or where babies come from - then explain in simple wordds, without too many details - at her level
The more casual you act around this issue the sooner she'll forget and get interested in other things, but if you make a big dal (get embarrassed, forbid, get upset etc) the more likely she is to pursue this new interest further....
