Do you remember Care Bears? Those bears have been hibernating for so long. But in 2001, they made a comeback. They were retro toys and they have the 1980s series to thank for their popularity.
American Greetings brought them back so that today's generation of kids would enjoy the bears that we enjoyed when we were younger.
In 2007, Care Bears Cheer, Funshine, Share, and Grumpy were loved by the children. Then there is the new addition Oopsy Bear. He was introduced in the movie "Oopsy Does It" in August that year.
It was also in that same year when they celebrated their 25th anniversary and the collection began. For those who remember the cartoons, they feel nostalgia seeing these bears around again.
Those who collect them appreciate the limited edition anniversary keepsakes and silver jewelry which are made available at specialty retailers. Some of these items may be pricey but they are worth it.
Vintage Care Bears reach a younger market through Macy's. This all started when Macy had a Thanksgiving Day Parade float showing off products which they have exclusivity off.
Creators and Macy's figured out that this is a way to share the love for these bears between those who watched the cartoons growing up and the children today.
The popularity also inspire people to make their own handmade Care Bears. Some sell these to the collectors while others keep these for their own.
There are also auctions on eBay. These were very popular in 2007 as well as 2008. The licensed items include sleep wear, bedding, ornaments, toys, lights, clothing, costumes, books, and vintage teddy bears.
There are forty million bears that have been sold in 1983 to 1987, thus proving the popularity of vintage Care Bears to collectors.
These are sold for $20 but there are still other treasures that are often being looked out by the aficionados. Those that are auctioned are mostly second hand but in still good condition.
Nonetheless, collectors adore vintage Care Bears too much that they don't mind buying these secondhand bears and have them restored if needed.
Not all are sold under $100. There are other designs that cost more, for example the vintage Care Bears can amount to $800 and those that come in figures and play sets cost around $500.
The bigger the vintage Care Bear, the more expensive it is.
